The Independence Kiwanis Club will again sponsor the “Pet Contest and the Pet Parade” for children age 12 and under at the fifth annual “Pets in the Park” on Saturday, May 3 at Santa Fe Trail Park, 2900 S. Santa Fe Road (off 23 Street), Independence.

Registration for the contest will begin at 9:45; judging will begin at 10:15 followed by the pet parade. There is no fee involved. A $50 savings bond from the Blue Ridge Bank & Trust Co. will be presented to the child with the “Best American Pet.” All participants will receive a ribbon.

Some pet categories are: smallest pet, largest pet, most unusual pet, owner pet look alike, pet with longest tail, funniest pet, pet with best trick, youngest pet, oldest pet, friendliest pet, best costumed pet, and pet with largest ears. The Recreation Department will have other “pet” related activities for the children.
